Searching for a more affordable dentist, doctor or medical specialist? HIF members can reduce (or eliminate!) out-of-pocket costs by visiting a Choice Network or AccessGap provider – and our online search tool helps make it easy.
What is the Choice Network?
It’s our way of helping to make dental treatment more affordable. The HIF Choice Network allows eligible HIF members to claim 100% back on a range of dental treatments from participating providers.
How do I claim no-gap dental?
If your dentist is registered with the HIF Choice Network, simply swipe your membership card at their eClaiming terminal or scan your digital card using the HIF app.
Can HIF members still claim from other dentists?
Of course! We’re all about choice, so HIF members eligible to claim dental treatment can still visit any registered dentist in Australia. If your dentist is not part of the Choice Network, we’ll pay benefits according to your policy. Learn more at hif.com.au/dental

Can AccessGap help members avoid out-of-pocket medical costs?
Yes! As an HIF member, you can reduce (or even eliminate!) out-of-pocket costs by asking providers to treat you under Access Gap.
With thousands of participating doctors and specialists across Australia, our gap cover arrangement can help you access the treatment you need at a reduced cost.
How can out-of-pocket costs apply if you have Hospital cover?
The Medicare Benefit Schedule (MBS) guides how much a health fund can pay for medical services in Australia. For inpatient services that are covered by Medicare and your Hospital Cover, Medicare covers 75% of the MBS fee and we cover the remaining 25%.
Here’s the catch: providers can charge higher than the MBS fee.
If this happens, then you’ll need to pay the difference as an out-of-pocket cost.
How does AccessGap work?
AccessGap is designed to minimise, or eliminate out of pocket expenses for inpatient medical services.
Participating providers can opt in (or out) on a per-patient basis, and choose to charge either no gap, or a ‘known gap’ of up to $500.
Even better? We've done the hard work for you.
Search for AccessGap specialists
If you have private hospital cover, it’s always advisable to ask each doctor or specialist if they will treat you under the AccessGap arrangement.
We also recommend that you request an itemised medical estimate from us prior to undergoing treatment.
