Water
Given that the human body is at least 65% water, you cannot go wrong when it comes to hydration if you stick to the clear stuff and yet it is estimated that at least 75% of us are dehydrated at any one time. At a minimum the average adult requires at least 1.5L of extra water each day, and even more if you are regularly active and/or training. If you are keen for your family to enjoy more water on a daily basis, it may be worth considering installing a filtering system at home. Here, you can enjoy the ease of chilled or sparking water with contaminant and chlorine removed whilst retaining the fluoride and suddenly water seems far more appealing when it comes from a special tap, is cold and tastes great.
Sparking Mineral Water
Mineral water is simply water that has been carbonated by adding CO2 which gives it a bubbly taste. In some cases, extra minerals such as calcium, potassium and magnesium may be added, albeit in small amounts. In some cases mineral water may have been sourced from natural springs or pumped from wells. Nutritionally it does not make any difference if you consume your water still or sparling and contrary to popular belief sparking water does not have a negative effect on teeth or bones as it is not acidic like soft drinks and fruit juices.
Soda Water
Soda water is water that has had carbon dioxide gas added to give it its fizziness similar to that of plain mineral water. Contrary to popular belief, soda water is not overly high in added salt, and generally contains a small amount of add salts (sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, potassium sulphate disodium phosphate) which gives soda water its distinct taste. For individuals sensitive to bloating and gas, soda water may not be a good choice but nutritionally is still a good option, especially if it encourages you to drink more water overall.
Green tea
If you are looking for a fat burning boost, adding in a couple of cups of green tea to your day is the way to go. Not only is green tea a rich source of powerful antioxidants that help to prevent cell related damage but there is also some evidence to show that green tea may increase fat metabolism. Any variety is a good choice, matcha even better and a great addition after meals to help neutralize sugar cravings for literally no calories.
